Heute habe ich ein Tutorial für euch! Wir nähen einen Zugluftstopper, den können wir für die nächsten kalten Monate sehr gut gebrauchen. Inspiriert dazu haben mich die neuen Foundationpaperpiecing Sets 'Cedar' und 'Mistletoe' die neu im Shop gelandet sind. Beide Sets eignen sich wunderbar für dieses Tutorial. Auch das Schnittmuster 'Holly' (auf deutsch erhältlich hier bei www.das-mach-ich-nachts.com) enthält FPP Blöcke, die für einen Zugluftstopper verwendet werden können.
Today I have a tutorial for you! I will show you how to sew a draft stopper. The coming months will be cold, staying warm is getting more and more expensive. This might help a little bit and will also make a lovely Christmas gift! I got the idea for a draft stopper when I designed my new foundation paper piecing sets 'Cedar' and 'Mistletoe' which have just landed in the shop. Both sets are perfect for this tutorial. If you like FPP and the look of the blocks you might also like my new pattern 'Holly'. Holly will also help you stay warm, as you learn how to sew a heating pad. Of course the included FPP blocks can be used for to make todays draft stopper!
Um einen Zugluftstopper zu nähen, müsst ihr zunächst die Tür ausmessen, für welche ihr ihn nutzen möchtet. Die Tür, für die ich genäht habe misst 30'' bzw. 77cm. Hier passen genau 6 Blöcke á 5'' (12,5 cm)! Bei dir geht die Rechnung nicht so genau auf? Du kannst problemlos links und rechts Streifen des Hintergrundstoffes ergänzen um deinen Zugluftstopper auf die richtige Breite zu bekommen.
To sew a draft stopper, you first need to measure the width of the door you want to use your draftstopper for. The door I sewed for is 30'' (or 77cm) wide. 6 blocks, each measuring 5'' (12.5 cm) make the perfect width! Your door width doesn't fit as well with the block measurements? You can easily add strips of background fabric to the left and right to get your draft stopper to be the correct width.
Nähe nun die entsprechende Anzahl an Blöcken aus den FPP Sets Cedar, Mistletoe oder Schnittmuster Holly.
Now sew the appropriate number of blocks from the FPP sets Cedar, Mistletoe or pattern Holly.
Nähe die Blöcke zu einer Reihe zusammen, füge ggf. deine Zusätzlichen Stoffstreifen an den Seiten dazu. Wenn du möchtest kannst du noch gestickte Zierstiche hinzufügen! Die Weihnachtskugeln können Bändchen bekommen, die Häuser Türklinken... hier kannst du viel Spass haben!
Sew the blocks to form a row, adding your extra strips of fabric to the sides if necessary. I added a few decorative embroidery stitches which was tons of fun! The Christmas baubles can get a little ribbon, houses can receive doorknobs.... You can have a lot of fun here!
Deine Reihe wird anschließend wie ein Quiltsandwich geheftet und gequiltet. Hier musst du nicht unbedingt eine Rückseite benutzen, da diese im Türluftstopper innenliegend sein wird. Ich habe mich aber dafür entschieden, da es der Vorderseite mehr Stabilität gibt und dein Endprodukt langlebiger ist.
Your row will then be basted and quilted like a quilt sandwich. You don't necessarily have to use a backing here, as it will be on the inside in the draft stopper. However, I chose to ad another layer of fabric because it gives the front more stability and makes your final product more durable.
Begradige die Kanten. Nun misst du deine gequiltete Vorderseite aus. Bei 6 Blöcken zum Beispiel sollte es ca. 30,5'' x 5,5'' sein. Durch das Quilten kann es auch mal etwas kleiner werden, das ist nicht schlimm.
Trim back the edges and measure your quilted front. For 6 blocks, for example, it should measure about 30.5'' x 5.5''. Quilting can sometimes lead to a little shrinking, that's not a big deal though.
Schneide aus einem Rückseitenstoff einen Streifen zu in der gleichen Größe. Lege deine Vorderseite rechts auf rechts auf den zugeschnittenen Rückseitenstoff. Stecke die Lagen zusammen, nähe anschließend mit einer 1/4'' Nahtzugabe rund um dein Nähstück. Lasse dabei eine ca. 2-3'' große Wendeöffnung. Kürze vorsichtig deine Ecken. Wende deinen Zugluftstopper und forme vorsichtig die Ecken aus.
Cut a strip of the same size you just measured from a backing fabric. Place your quilted front and the backing fabric strip right sides together. Pin the layers together, then sew around your sewing piece using a 1/4'' seam allowance. Leave an opening (2-3'') for turning. Carefully trim your corners. Turn your draft stopper inside out, carefully shape out the corners.
Deinen Zugluftstopper kannst du nun mit Füllwatte ausfüllen. Ich recycle hierfür auch mal gerne die Polyesterfüllung eines alten Kissens. Schließe noch die Wendeöffnung und dein Zugluftstopper ist fertig für seinen Einsatz!

You can now fill your draft stopper, for example with polyester filling. I also like to recycle the filling of old pillows. Close the opening - your draft stopper is now ready to be use!
